Lena Kitzing appointed Deputy Director of the Florence School of Regulation

Lena Kitzing has been appointed Deputy Director of the Florence School of Regulation, building on her longstanding collaboration with the FSR as a professor, course director and instructor

Lena Kitzing is taking on a new role at the Florence School of Regulation as Deputy Director, joining Director Leonardo Meeus and Deputy Director Alberto Pototschnig.

For Lena, however, FSR is far from new territory. She joined the School as a Part-time Professor in 2023 and has since been closely involved in its training and academic activities. Her work at the FSR has included the Regulation and Integration of Renewable Energy course, which she co-directs, as well as teaching to the Summer School on Regulation of Energy Utilities and the Loyola Autumn Research School (LARS). She is also contributing to the new Energy Regulation Academy, bringing her expertise in renewable energy policy and market design to its training activities.

Lena brings to the role a background that combines academic research, policy advice and close engagement with industry. Her expertise in renewables comes at a time when their growing role in European electricity markets is raising new questions for regulation, market design and policymaking. She also brings experience in academic leadership, developing teams and implementing new initiatives – experience she hopes to draw on as FSR continues to grow.

Looking ahead, Lena sees an important role for FSR in supporting Europe’s sustainable energy transition through research, education and its engagement with policymakers.

I really see FSR as this incubator of great ideas around our topic, sustainable change, sustainable transition in Europe.

Beyond FSR, Lena is Professor of Energy Economics and Policy at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where she leads the multidisciplinary Division of Wind Energy Systems. Her research focuses on the governance of energy systems, particularly the deployment, financing and integration of renewable energy. She is also a member of the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change.
