EU transport competitiveness
The European Union is entering a decade that will be decisive for its global competitiveness. This is particularly the case in the transport sector. Transport underpins the single market, supports the green and digital transitions and shapes Europe’s geopoliti cal presence. As global competition intensifies and technological leadership becomes increasingly strategic, the EU must balance open markets with resilience against natural and human threats, innovation with pragmatism and regulatory ambition with simplicity. At the same time, the Global Gateway strategy provides an un precedented opportunity to project European expertise, industrial capabilities and values worldwide. By fostering high-standard part nerships, supporting sustainable infrastructure and promoting fair and transparent conditions internationally, Global Gateway has the potential to strengthen not only Europe’s role abroad but also the competitiveness of its transport ecosystem at home. This policy brief summarises the key points discussed at the 2nd Transport Competitiveness Summit.
