‘Buy European’ and the energy transition: policy and trade-offs

The FSR Policy Exchange Series brings FSR Energy donors and senior faculty together to discuss emerging EU energy policy and regulatory developments.

‘Buy European’ is becoming an increasingly prominent feature of EU policy, reflecting efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing, reduce strategic dependencies, and secure the economic benefits of the energy transition.

This FSR Policy Exchange will examine the evolving EU framework, including the Net-Zero Industry Act and the proposed Industrial Accelerator Act, alongside plans to revise EU public procurement rules. Faculty members will discuss how these measures could interact and what they may mean for sourcing decisions, investment, and competition in the energy industry.

The discussion will consider how support for Europe’s industrial base can be balanced with supply chain resilience, affordability, rapid clean energy deployment, and the EU’s international trade commitments.
