The FSR attends COP26 – LIVE UPDATES

FSR Energy and Climate attend COP26 joining forces with other members of academia, civil society and private companies on the frontline of climate action.

This year, a large delegation of FSR researchers and professors is attending COP26 in Glasglow joining forces with other members of academia, civil society and private companies on the frontline of climate action.

What is COP26?

The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference. The conference is taking place in Glasgow, United Kingdom, between 31 October and 12 November 2021, under the presidency of Alok Sharma.

The COP26 summit will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The themes and goals of the conference will include the securing of global net-zero objectives by mid-century, protection of communities and natural habitats, mobilising of finance and the joint efforts to be undertaken together to tackle the climate crisis.

International Methane Emissions Observatory

On Friday, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson noted that the topic of methane emissions has been acquiring political gravitas.

The Commissioner also thanked FSR Andris Piebalgs
for leading the discussions on #methane and FSR Energy for its continued collaboration with the EU Commission.
