Network Industries

The old and the new network industries are undergoing technological and institutional (regulatory) changes before our eyes. Traditional network industries in the areas of transport, energy, communications, water and wastewater were shaped over the past 30+ years by processes of privatisation, de-regulation and re-regulation. As of the past 10 years, profound technological transformations, especially digitalisation, have furthermore transformed these traditional network industries and have given rise to a new type of network industries, namely digital platforms. These, in turn, call for new and innovative ways of regulation.
