OneNet takeaways: flexibility markets and TSO-DSO cooperation

Nicolò Rossetto (FSR) interviews Jan Sagerstam (Volue) at the margins of the OneNet project final event, which took place in March 2024 in Brussels. During the interview, Jan lists three main learnings from the demonstrations in the Northern Cluster: 1) the necessity to understand the details of electricity market design; 2) the need to go beyond the current practice with data exchange to support market transactions; 3) the importance to facilitate participation if one wants to ensure customer engagement in flexibility markets. Jan also invites TSOs and DSOs to be open to each other and collaborate. TSOs and DSOs should understand their respective needs and adopt a fresh approach, which can benefit from stakeholder involvement and lead to the emergence of a single, efficient, energy system out of the many systems they currently manage.
