10th Climate Annual Conference | Keynote speech by Maria Loureiro

On 28 November 2024, Maria Loureiro, Professor in the Department of Fundamentals of Economic Analysis at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), held a keynote lecture entitled “Climate Change and Extreme Events: A Tale of Social Amplification of Risks” at the 10th Annual Conference on the Economic Assessment of European Climate Policies, which took place at the European University Institute in Florence.

The lecture highlights the importance of reflecting extreme weather events’ manifold economic and social costs in the scientific analysis. Among others, it considers the risk of misinformation linked to natural disasters.
