Traditional network industries in the areas of transport, energy, communications, water and wastewater were shaped over the past 30+ years by processes of privatisation, de-regulation and re-regulation. As of the past 10 years, profound technological transformations, especially digitalisation, have furthermore transformed these traditional network industries and have given rise to a new type of network industries, namely digital platforms.
