The National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) was created to regulate the Brazilian electricity sector, from generation, transmission and distribution to the sale of electricity. ANEEL is responsible for the supervision of the concessions, permissions and electric energy services; the implementation the federal government’s policies and guidelines regarding the exploitation of electric energy and the use of hydraulic potentials; the establishment of tariffs; and the settlement of differences at the administrative level, between agents and between agents and consumers.
