Technologies: promises or reality | Ronnie Belmans

In this video lecture, Ronnie Belmans, advisor to the FSR and former professor at KU Leuven, assesses some of the promises that technology offers nowadays about the decarbonization of our economies. We indeed have today plenty of emerging technological options for energy production, industry, transport and buildings; however, it is important to remember that their deployment will inevitably take time. Technologies that are not yet commercial now will hardly contribute to the achievement of climate and energy targets by 2030 or 2040.

This video lecture is part of the EU Green Deal online course – 2021 edition.

This course has been discontinued in 2025 and replaced by a new online course, Getting to Net Zero, still featuring Ronnie Belmans as part of the faculty.
