Giancarlo Granero

Course Instructor

Biography

Giancarlo Granero is the Head of the Space Economy Unit of the European Commission in Brussels, within the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS). DG DEFIS actively supports the growth and competitiveness of the European space industry by providing targeted incentives (with a special focus on SMEs), fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, promoting technology transfers, and facilitating access to finance and markets.

Prior to joining DG DEFIS, he held several positions at the European Commission, both in central services and in industry-focused departments, including the GMES Bureau, precursor of the Copernicus programme.

Prior to that, he acquired early professional experience in Italy, both in large and small companies and as an independent consultant.

Mr. Granero holds a master degree in environmental engineering, following studies at Politecnico di Torino, and a DES in Interdisciplinary analysis of the European construction, obtained in Brussels and Louvain-la-Neuve.

He is of Italian nationality, is married and father of two children.
