Ethem Pekin

Head of Economic Policy & Sustainability at the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER)

Biography

Ethem Pekin is a Brussels-based economist and sustainability expert serving as Head of Economic Policy & Sustainability at the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER). He guides CER’s economic analysis on EU transport and rail policy, with a strong emphasis on environmental and sustainability dimensions.

Ethem earned his PhD in Applied Economics from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in 2010 with a thesis focused on GIS-based evaluation models for intermodal transport policy. Prior to CER, he contributed as a research associate at VUB and has co-authored numerous academic publications on intermodal transport frameworks and decision support systems. He previously worked with Lufthansa Cargo to improve their global sales reporting cockpit.
