Biography

Baran Doda is an external collaborator of the project LIFE DICET led by the Climate Area of FSR. He is a Head of Programme Carbon Markets and Pricing at adelphi and Senior Project Manager at ICAP. As an economist his academic and applied work focuses on the design of carbon pricing instruments, linkages between emissions trading systems and market-based decarbonization policies particularly for energy and industrial sectors. He has advised the German Federal Government on the implications of voluntary allowance cancellations by private actors, the assessment of carbon pricing potential in East and South Asia, and the role of carbon pricing across different sectors of the economy. He has worked on projects for the European Commission on the potential for carbon leakage under EU ETS as well as on the interactions between different market stability instruments in emission trading systems under linkage. In addition, Baran conducts analyses and facilitates technical dialogues at the International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP), a network of more than thirty jurisdictions that share experience and know-how on the design and implementation of emissions trading.

Baran holds a PhD and an MA in Economics from the University of Toronto, Canada. Previously, he taught and conducted research at leading Canadian and British universities and worked as an economist at the international Department of the Bank of Canada.
