The vast and rapidly growing base of Internet users has encouraged businesses to innovate in order to offer an ever-evolving array of online products and services. Different business players characterize the current online ecosystem. From a vertical industrial perspective, presently we can best represent the Internet as a silos with four main levels: network builders at the bottom, network operators in the low-middle layer, equipment, device and application manufacturers in the high-middle layer, and content and service providers at the top.
This year conference aims at discussing and better understanding the core technical and economic dynamics of the online ecosystem and their regulatory and policy implications. To reach this goal, it will pay simultaneous attention to all four levels of the silos and, in particular, it will explore the evolving relationships of competition and complementarity among players apparently located at different levels of the silos. Moreover, the conference will try to identify risks and opportunities of the current data chain, from collecting to processing and storing. A session pointing out the future challenges for regulators will close the works.
Different stakeholders representing the European Institutions, the NRAs, the Industry and the Academia will animate the debate and guarantee a rich exchange of ideas. High level representatives of extra-EU jurisdictions will enlarge the scope of reflections and allow for fruitful comparison of experiences.
