Launch event in Beijing

Ilaria Conti, Florence School of Regulation Head of gas, will be attending today’s EU-China energy cooperation launch event in Beijing. The event follows the 21st EU-China Summit, which took place on 9 April in Brussels and saw Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, and H.E. Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, in attendance.

In the Joint statement of the 21st EU-China summit the leaders affirmed their “commitment to deepening their partnership for peace, growth, reform and civilisation based on the principles of mutual respect, trust, equality and mutual benefit, by comprehensively implementing the EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation”.

Energy is at the centre of these cooperation efforts. During the Dialogue, the EU and China underlined their strong commitment to implement the Paris Agreement and the Montreal Protocol, to tackle the threat of climate change, and to further intensify their cooperation on the basis of the 2018 joint Leaders’ Statement on Climate Change and Clean Energy. In order to show the importance of cooperation in addressing global environmental challenges the bloc and China are set to meet again in September 2019 for a successful outcome of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Climate Action Summits.
